flower: from dream of 11/14 - 11/15

flower: from dream of 11/14 - 11/15

This drawing taken directly from a flower I drew in the following dream:

First part of dream Marzja was there telling me that she had been engaged to a copper snake. Later I fount out they were no longer engaged and then later, out in the yard on the north side of a house I found the snake in the grass.

At one point I was in a house. Under the cushions of a chair I found raw fish, and behind a stool a pane of solid glass rested against the wall at a slight angle. Under it, grass had begun to grow into the house, on the floor, and it was displacing the carpet little by little. I was the only one that noticed.

At some point I was in a large building which looked like a hotel or dorms. I went looking for a shower and they had none anywhere. Finally I found one in use. There was some blonde guy in there. He looked like some athletic type. He was taking a shower and I went in and took a shower. He was pretty friendly and just talked alot. His clothes were silver and black and white.

Some time in the dream a man in a black suit fell into an elephant's eyelid. The elephant seemed irritated and could not get him out, but was trying to act like it wasn't bothering him. The man was struggling to breath and to eject himself from the eye lid. Finally some men came and using some tools they were able to peel back the eye lid and pull the man out. Of course in reality a full grown man would never be trapped under an elephant's eyelid. I don't even know the proper structure of an elephant's eye. in the dream the eye had lids much like a human, but it was definitely an elephant.

So much more happened at this point and I've forgotten most of it.

At the end of the dream I was walking with some friends in a dark tunnel like structure - not tubular, but squarish in shape, but a long tunnel, w turns, sort of like being in a subway terminal. A Korean girl was there. She was eating a popsicle I think. She wore red and white clothes. She wanted us to take pictures of her. We were going to send her the files and then post them on flickr.

After this the dream was ending, but I turned around and walked back into this tunnel through a rusty metal door which I pushed open with the resolve it took to go back into that dream. At this point there had been some dark rumors from above that the there was something wrong inside the tunnel and the media was descending into the tunnel with all kinds of cameras and microphones. I walked up to a camerawoman knowing that she wanted to find a story. I saw them coming and rushed toward them. I grabbed a piece of metal about the size and shape of an ipod and with a yellow marker I was able to draw a thick lined flower on it. First I drew a circle and then drew the radiating petals. Then as the journalists approached I drew a long stem and two leaves, one on the right, and one on the left. I walked up and thrust the drawing into her camera and projected a thought toward her that everything was O.K. here. Then I disappeared. All the journalists wanted to know what I had stuck in her camera and so the story became a story about the flower instead of terror. Later I think people posted this flower on youtube and flickr. All different variations of it.

car stop02

car stop02

Here is my version of a low-tech garage locator device, very low tech. It consists of a piece of carpet, a 4x4 board and some roofing nails. The carpet was one of those samples you can buy at a flooring store. I seem to remember that I paid $1.00 for it. The wood and nails I had left over from a repair job I did at home.
All you do is nail the board to the carpet using the roofing nails which have a very large head to help keep the rug attached.
Then just lay the whole thing on the garage floor at the position that stops your car where you want it to stop. Once you fine this place I marked the floor with a big marker in case the stop gets kicked out of position when the car is not holding it down.
Next time you go to park you ease into your parking space and you will feel when the tire pushes against the wood stop. Perfect stop ever time without batteries to wear out and need replacing. I thick I've had this stop in place for over 12 years and I haven't replaced a battery yet.

The Concise Guide to DNS and BIND

The Concise Guide to DNS and BIND

The Concise Guide to DNS and BIND provides you with the technical depth and expert-level information you need to understand and administer DNS and BIND. Domain Name System (DNS) is a distributed Internet directory service. It is used mainly to translate between domain names and IP addresses, and to control Internet email delivery. Most Internet services rely on DNS to work, and if DNS fails, Web sites cannot be located and email delivery stalls. BIND (Berkeley Internet Name Daemon) is an implementation of the Domain Name System (DNS) protocols. This book covers setting up a DNS server and client, DNS domain zones, compiling and configuring BIND, dial-up connections, adding more domains, setting up root servers on private networks, firewall rules, Dynamic DNS (DDNS), subdomains and delegation, caching and name resolution, troubleshooting tools and techniques, debugging and logging, new features in BIND 8.2.2, and it offers introductory information on BIND 9.

28/365 Moving on.

28/365 Moving on.

This weekend at the beach, Me & Hannah had a really good talk. We sat on the top balcony of the beach house, basically the roof, and just poured into what we would change about life and how much the people around us have changed. It might sound dumb but I think that conversation changed me a little...I've realized how off track I am and how in just a few years I have messed up so deeply. So here's my story..and how Im changing.

I was born, raised, and currently reside in Kingsburg, California. It's really small and there are more churches than places to eat. I was baptized as a catholic but my family was never really religious. In Junior high I went to Kingsburg Community Church (KCC) with a lot of my friends, and got pretty involved in it. However Freshman year came and along with becoming a member of the cheer squad, I got my first boyfriend. Things changed and my friends shifted, but I still managed to squeeze in some time for church. After all that was what kept me on the right path. My first love ended and I was very bitter, to say the least. I cut myself alot for his attention, and sometimes it worked. Eventually it didnt, and I resorted to Drinking. By this time I never went to church, and didnt keep in touch with my old friends. I drank a lot, and partied with a group of older girls that I had thought were my friends. Drama happened and i left that group, but my desire to rebel didnt. I even stole my parents wine and brandy when they were asleep and drank by myself, I still have the puke stains in the carpet to prove it. Then one night I was out with one of my oldest friends since fifth grade, and we both agreed to do a line of Coke. Im not sure why I did it, but that wasn't the last time either. I tried weed & by this time smoked cigarettes quite frequently although hardly anyone knew. I guess I just got caught up in everything. Once the School year started I slowed down, but just barely. Ive only done coke twice and weed three of four times, which I suppose is pretty good compared to some people I know, but still having done all that by the time I was fifteen is not something Im proud of. I havent done much lately besides smoking and a few occurences of drugs and alcohol, but as of last night Im done with it all. I always though that i was "living life", but looking back that was no way to live at all. I am very serious about photography now and want to do everything I can to succeed at it...that means staying sober. Not only for me, but my friends and family. I guess I never really saw it clearly until last night on the roof, but Im so glad I did. I love taking pictures of hannah because something about her translates so well into pictures, her joy and just amazing outlook on life. Hannah said she was going to write letters to everyone who's changed her life in some way, so here's my letter to her. You inspire me :)

Gelli Aur

Gelli Aur

Gelli Aur is a Country Park with 60 acres of wooded parkland surrounding a magnificent mansion. With commanding views across the beautiful Towy Valley, Gelli Aur was once the home of the Vaughan and Cawdor families. This 'Golden Grove', to use its English translation, has a wide range of attractions that the visitor will treasure. For your further enjoyment a programme of events, craft demonstrations and guided walks is available throughout the year.
Nature Trails

The nature trails explore woodland, parkland, ponds and meadow. In spring lesser celandine, wood sorrel and bluebells carpet the woodland floor. Breeding birds include pied fly catchers, chiff-chaffs and blue tits. During the summer up to five different species of orchid can be seen in the meadow. Butterflies include ringlets, small skippers and meadow browns. During winter keep an eye out for flocks of feeding birds; these include great tits, nuthatches, siskins and goldcrests.
DeerA Fawn at Gelli Aur
Deer Park

The 20-acre deer park has around 20 fallow deer. During the hey-day of the estate the deer park was once 400 acres with 600 head of deer. There are two types of fallow deer at Gelli Aur; those with dark brown coats and those with white-spotted light brown coats. The bucks cast their antlers in spring and grow new antlers in velvet through the summer. The rut is in October; with the does giving birth to fawns the following June.
The Mansion

The Mansion, with its crow stepped gables, battlemented portico and tall polygonal chimney stacks, is an impressive building. However, the original Vaughan 1 mansion built between 1565 and 1570 no longer exists. In 1804 the last of the Vaughans died childless and the Gelli Aur estate passed to the Cawdor family. It was they who built the present mansion between 1827 and 1832. The large house where the family resided is in contrast to the long service wing. Please note that the mansion is not open to the public.
AzeleaAzalea in bloom
The Aboretum

The arboretum, or tree collection, is 10 acres of mature trees and shrubs. The arboretum was planted in the 1860's by the Cawdor's head gardener, William Hill. Mature trees include Giant Redwood, Monterey Pine and Fern-Leaved Beech. The rhododendrons and azaleas are at their best in May. Recent planting has been carried out by the County Council to ensure the continuity of this outstanding feature.

Gelli Aur Country Park is managed by Carmarthenshire County Council. For further information contact the Countryside Warden on 01558 668885.

The Sheikh Zayed Mosque

The Sheikh Zayed Mosque

We went to Abu Dhabi for three reasons:

1. To say we went to Abu Dhabi.

2. It was cheaper to fly into AUH than DXB (Dubai).

3. To see Sheikh Zayed Mosque.

(I put in two of those reasons because I felt bad for really only having one reason to visit Abu Dhabi.)

But let me tell you, that third reason?

The Sheikh Zayed Mosque is hands down the best mosque I've ever seen.

I've always wanted to visit the Badshahi Mosque in Lahore, but why do I need to anymore when I visited a pearl white one sitting in the UAE with the world's largest chandelier and the world's largest carpet?

The mosque truly was amazing. Shining so bright in the Emirati sun that you have to squint while standing in the magnificent courtyard just to see anything.

Many things associated with it are highly unnecesssary... but I guess that's in line with the Emirati culture... bad dum pum.

But it truly was jaw-dropping.

There were a few annoying rules though.

No photos before Juma.

Every female has to wear an abayya (they a room full of them though for those who didn't have one).

Feet police making sure your feet are not in the direction of the Makkah wall.

But at least it was nice to hear tons of Urdu (which, I feel, is the dominant language in the UAE!)

I'll Inshallah be going to al-Haram next month and perhaps until then, Sheikh Zayed Mosque? You're the best.

(Dome of the Rock gets honorable mention too... but that's not a mosque.)

Magnificent Seven Collection [Blu-ray]

The Magnificent Seven Academy Award® Winner*

Yul Brynner stars in the landmark western that launched the film careers of Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson and James Coburn. Tired of being ravaged by marauding bandits, a small Mexican village seeks help from seven American gunfighters. Set against Elmer Bernstein’s Oscar® Nominated** score, director John Sturges’ thrilling adventure belongs in any Blu-ray collection.

*1956: Actor, The King and I **1960

Return of the Magnificent Seven

Yul Brynner rides tall in the saddle in this sensational sequel to The Magnificent Seven! Brynner rounds up the most unlikely septet of gunfighters—Warren Oates, Claude Akins and Robert Fuller among them—to search for their compatriot who has been taken hostage by a band of desperados.

Guns of the Magnificent Seven

This fast-moving western stars Oscar® Winner* George Kennedy as the revered—and feared—gunslinger Chris Adams! When a Mexican revolutionary is captured, his associates hire Adams to break him out of prison to restore hope to the people. After recruiting six experts in guns, knives, ropes and explosives, Adams leads his band of mercenaries on an adventure that will pit them against their most formidable enemy yet! *1967: Supporting Actor, Cool Hand Luke

The Magnificent Seven Ride!

This rousing conclusion to the legendary Magnificent Seven series stars Lee Van Cleef as Chris Adams. Now married and working for the law, Adams’ settled life is turned upside-down when his wife is killed. Tracking the gunmen, he finds a plundered border town whose widowed women are under attack by ruthless marauders. Outraged and outnumbered, he resurrects the Seven to take on the killers in this final, emotional battle!

Akira Kurosawa's rousing Seven Samurai was a natural for an American remake--after all, the codes and conventions of ancient Japan and the Wild West (at least the mythical movie West) are not so very far apart. Thus The Magnificent Seven effortlessly turns samurai into cowboys (the same trick worked more than once: Kurosawa's Yojimbo became Sergio Leone's A Fistful of Dollars). The beleaguered denizens of a Mexican village, weary of attacks by banditos, hire seven gunslingers to repel the invaders once and for all. The gunmen are cool and capable, with most of the actors playing them just on the cusp of '60s stardom: Steve McQueen, James Coburn, Charles Bronson, Robert Vaughn. The man who brings these warriors together is Yul Brynner, the baddest bald man in the West. There's nothing especially stylish about the approach of veteran director John Sturges (The Great Escape), but the storytelling is clear and strong, and the charisma of the young guns fairly flies off the screen. If that isn't enough to awaken the 12-year-old kid inside anyone, the unforgettable Elmer Bernstein music will do it: bum-bum-ba-bum, bum-ba-bum-ba-bum.... Followed by three inferior sequels, Return of the Seven, Guns of the Magnificent Seven, and The Magnificent Seven Ride! --Robert Horton
